Project 365, Week 7

Project 365 Week 7 iisss.... Late. Sorry peeps. I've been battling an icky since Thursday. Good thing I had a four day weekend. Great timing, right?

Anyway, here goes week 7 of Project 365!

[Project 365/43]
Ice cream with drizzly, smooth, lovely chocolate. It's healthy because it's actually "yogurt" and the chocolate syrup has calcium added to it.

[Project 365/44]
Little bit of a snow day, aka, late start at work :)

[Project 365/45]
Valentines Day and this is my newest love - Finnegan. I feel sorta bad, because I am introducing the world to my new Apple using the browser on my old Apple, Connor. But it's okay because Connor is going to live with my Sister and hopefully, we will be able to bring more of my family into the world of Apple.

[Project 365/46]
Breakfast of champions. Really it's the Fiji water that makes the meal.

[Project 365/47]
Made mocha chocolate chip brownies today in the hopes that they would make me feel better. While delicious, all they really did was make me kill a pan of brownies...by myself. (I probably shouldn't admit that...)

[Project 365/48]
Finally tried my new ballet flats with my new skinny jeans!

[Project 365/49]
Spent part of today trying to make bread. This was before I put it in the oven, because I totally forgot to take a picture of the finished project. After I did this, I decided to Google breadmaking. Turns out I did it all wrong, but the bread still came out - you know - edible :) And it made my apartment smell fantastic.

Project 365, Week 6

Week 6 of Project 365 - still going strong!!!

[Project 365/36]
Stupid groundhog - I thought you were lying.

[Project 365/37]
Using my favorite pot to cook some lovely seafood chowder.

[Project 365/38]
Grey day, punctuated by a (really hard to see) creepy flowing cloud "river" of black birds that lasted about two miles.

[Project 365/39]
Paid respects today to a wonderful woman. Rest in piece Mrs. Inch - you were a lovely person and I am happy that I had the opportunity to meet you.

[Project 365/40]
Motorcycle refresher training was today. I rode someone else's bike and totally tipped over on it. Lesson learned? Crotch rockets have a TOTALLY different turning radius than cruisers.

[Project 365/41]
This was the first McDonald's meal I've had since coming back. Not bad for one who loves Mickey D's fries.

[Project 365/42]
After breaking one nail down past the quick and breaking at least three others, I finally broke down and got my nails shellacked.

Valentines Decorating

All last year I scoured the internet searching (and of course, Pinning) ideas for mantles and wreaths and other holiday decorations. This is the first holiday I have been able to decorate for since getting back, so I definitely wanted to go all out.

Yes, I know the TV is in front of the fireplace. It's electric and doesn't work very well. And with the weather so warm I don't need it. But mostly, it didn't fit anywhere else. The photo collage heart was inspired by this heart. I like it so much, I may leave it up permanently :) *Update: I just realized how off center it is...hmmm...

These canvases were my first attempt at painting on canvas - ever. I then did the "Love" heart out of yarn (inspired by this one). The other one is plastic packaging, cut like a heart with satin ribbon wound around the edge.
The roses are wrapped in the same satin ribbon and the heart is a ring I found at Target in the dollar spot. Yay target!!!

I really, really wanted to do a topiary. So I pinned a whole bunch of paper cut hearts to a styrofoam ball. My favorite part of this was the stick. I didn't want to go buy a dowel and I couldn't find any regular pencils, so I took the sponge off one of those sponge paintbrushes you can get at craft stores for like 5 cents, wrapped in in ribbon and shoved it in to a hole in the ball.
The rest of the stuff is more dollar spot stuff and some ribbons. The frame was a larger purchase, but I know it will get used a lot.

Finally, the wreath. I have had this heart wreath probably since I moved to Kansas, and possibly before. It's been that long since I bought it. I wrapped it in ribbon I had and glued on some flowers I got at Hobby Lobby on sale - and I only burned myself once. I'm getting so much better at glue guns!

Can't wait to see what the rest of blogland does for Valentine's Day decor!

February Goals

Setting goals is a great idea, but I have a habit of not letting anyone know. This leaves me without anyone to be accountable to, save myself. I'm not so good at holding myself accountable. Sad, but true.

So I have decided that I will be accountable to you, my dear reader (if I actually have any). Each month, in the first couple of days, I will post the things I hope to accomplish this month and how I did on the goals for the last month.

- Log 60 miles running
- Limit my soda intake to one a day (not too bad during the week, but on the weekends... this has really become a bad habit.)
- Take lunch to work three times per week

- Organize and catalog movies
- Create boxes to organize movies

- Make cookies for Valentines
- Decorate the mantle for Valentines
- Make a wreath for Valentines

- Finish four layouts
- One Little Word ("Do") canvas

Major Monthly Program:
- Refinish Wally-World Bookshelves (Wood filler, Sand, Paint, maybe line the back with fun fabric)

We'll see how it goes :)

Crazy Chocolate Espresso Bean Cookies

If crazy and hyper could come in the form of a cookie, it would totally be these! One of my friends from work (one I spent all last year with in Iraq and who has become a really good friend) left on Monday for her new duty station. *Side Note: The one thing I dislike about the Army the most is that we spend a couple years at a location, making friends and forming relationships, then have to leave - it's horribly sad :(

Anyway, I wanted to make something for here that said, "Good luck. I'll miss you, and thanks for being such a good friend!" So, as I looked at my cupboard, I realized I had chocolate covered espresso beans (one of her favorite indulgences...a favorite that we both share). I wanted to make cookies, so I took a wonderful fantastic delicious chocolate cookie recipe from here and...embellished...a little.

Take this recipe.

Add about half a bag of semi sweet chocolate chips.

Bake 8-10 minutes at 350. Let cool completely before frosting.

1/2 c butter, softened

1 1/2 c powdered sugar

2/3 c cocoa powder

4 Tbsp Instant coffee dissolved in 1/4 c water

2 tsp vanilla

Handful of chocolate covered espresso beans, ground fine

Sift the sugar and cocoa powder. Cream the dry ingredients and butter. Add the coffee and vanilla. Mix until everything is combined and it starts getting fluffy. Fold in the espresso beans.

I tried piping the frosting on with a star tip, but since I wasn't particularly concerned with sifting out the larger pieces, the tip kept getting clogged. I ended up just spreading it on. I them to my friend after the farewell lunch to keep her awake on the road, then took the rest into the office the next day. They disappeared in about an hour. One of things I love about the Army, I can bake to my heart's content and not worry about getting fat since there is always someone at work in need of baked goods :D
